Had a great opportunity over the weekend to see the way that we can learn new skills through visualisation.
One of my volunteer roles involves manoeuvring large powerboats in very tight areas. As part of the ongoing qualifications, I had to attend a 3 day course along with others who were just starting out on the experience 'curve'.
On the first day, they got a short 10 minutes to practice helming which usually resulted in bouncing off a piece of the marina (we stayed away from other boats).
Told to take time to visualise, and pretend to move the steering wheel & dual throttles, the following day - without more expensive boat time - their skills had improved. This improvement continued the following day.
Don't ever doubt the power of the brain - it's amazingly flexible
